The Sword and Shield are the bastion of defense that stands between your friends and those who seek to do them harm. Use these weapons of combat if you are looking to protect your fellow traveler. With Patch 1.1 of New World having been released on November 19th We've put together patch notes with commentary for this weapon. Sword weapon. Follow the link below for more information.

The only weapon used in conjunction with the Shield, the Sword has a wide range of defensive options. While there are a variety of weapons that tank and kill, it is the Sword is the most effective. The Sword sadly does not do all that much damage, so it will level slightly slower than other weapons that are purely focused on DPS. Its Light Attacks are a combo of two slashes and the spin attack, which all take Slashing damage. Its Heavy Attacks cause damage by thrusting with a powerful poke.

The Sword is the only weapon combined with the Shield and the Sword, it creates unique attributes of both items. The Shield also comes with an extra equipment slot, so you will observe that the attributes that are available on both Shield and the Sword along with the Shield are a fraction of the attributes you get from the similar Gear Score Weapon of a different type. When you combine them, you'll receive the same number of attributes, but it's not the only thing you can get from this set.

Instead of just 3 to 0 Perks on your weapon, you can get up to six total Perks on both items. Be aware that you only get Perks and Attributes from your Shield when it is in your hands, which means you will not gain any benefits while using the other weapon. Shields have damage numbers in them, as this is the method employed to estimate the amount of damage done through Shield Bash Shield Bash and Shield Rush Shield Rush. Shields can be heavy and could affect the load of your equipment while they are installed, so it is recommended to always use an entire loadout you are using Shields. Shield.

When enemies are attacking, holding Right Click will cause you to move you Shield to block. Successful blocks will damage your Stamina bar, and you won't be able to recover Stamina while you block, so be careful not to run out. In the event that your Stamina bar is depleted you'll be stunned for a few moments and take damage from the Stamina-breaking assault.

In addition, there are three kinds of shields available in the games: Round Kite, Tower, or Round.

Round Shields are the most destructive in your Shield Abilities, Shield Bash Shield Bash, and Shield Rush Shield Rush, while having the lowest block stability.

Tower Shields are the inverse of this, having the highest block stability and the least damage in contrast, Kite Shields are the middle ground.

Block stability is a number which you can find on all weapons. It is the amount of Stamina damage mitigation you receive when blocking. Round Shields all have a block stability of 30 percent, Kite Shields have 40% And Tower Shields have 50%.

So, if you are seeking to make the most damage that you can do with your Shield-specific capabilities for PvP or sheer danger generation you'll want to choose Round Shields. If you are looking to be able to do a better job absorption of damage, then you'll require one called a Tower Shield. We suggest making use of the Tower Shield in all PvE content because this will make managing your stamina easier. In lower levels, it may be difficult to find an Tower Shield and so, use the Kite Shield when you can.

You'll notice the Shield Bash Shield Bassh and the Defiant Stance Defiant Strance are able to taunt, however only if you have an Carnelian Carnelian gem socketed in your Sword (otherwise they cannot taunt).

A taunt will cause PvE foes to focus on you, but enemies will usually finish the actions or animations they have already performed against other targets first, before switching their attention to you. So if you taunt an enemy who is already rushing off to slam your healer, for example, then that enemy will finish off their charge before they come back for you. This means you need to be extremely quick to taunt your enemies when you realize that you do not are able to get your aggro back, and that your team will have to sometimes fend for themselves and fight until you get aggro back.

The Sword has a tendency to scale with Strength, but also scales by Dexterity. It is possible to use it with a weapon that scales any of these attributes. We recommend that you focus on finding gear that has both Strength and Dexterity, and Constitution. Faction armor in particular does well in giving you a balance of Dexterity or Strength, and Constitution.

In PvE In PvE, you have to be the tank, otherwise known as the person who is able to get all monsters to attack them as their enemies are killed. If you own an Carnelian Carnelian gem in your Sword and use either Shield Bash Shield Bash or Defiant Stance Defiant Stance, you'll make enemies frightened to attack you.

In PvP, you'll likely have a tank spec during an War where your job is to protect one point. You will want to be in the front of your allies in range to intercept projectiles coming towards you and melee foes to protect those less tough friends. For weapon gem, we recommend cut Pristine Malachite Cut Pristine Malachite as you're likely to slow foes with Achilles Heel Achilles Heel.

If you are looking for armor gems, suggest one of two options: Cut Pristine Onyx Cut Pristine Onyx or Cut Pristine Diamond Cut Pristine Diamond for physical damage absorption.

The Sword like other weapons, has six abilities; however, you can only use three abilities at any give time . You can only use three abilities on your action bars. While you can spend Mastery Points on more than three the abilities, it's not a good use of points, as respeccing the weapon is quite affordable to perform.

This ability causes you to move forward with a stab by turning your character around and then executing a backstab. At first , this appears to be a bit odd until you discover Tactician Tactician's ability to reset your cooldowns very quickly when you take on multiple enemies.

As with all weapons that are available, the Sword comes with two Mastery Trees. You can earn Mastery Points in either Tree but you must possess a Mastery of the preceding row in order to choose the higher level Masteries. If a Mastery is connected by a vertical line, it to a master above it then you must first select the mastery that is higher to unlock the lower ones. The linked Masteries usually support Abilities which are denoted by a square-shaped.

While you are able to obtain all 6 Abilities at once but you'll only be able to add three Abilities in your Action Bar at one time. It is unwise to invest in more than three abilities, since it's easy to revise them as needed.

This Tree is focused on increasing damage while also applying it to slow. Achilles Heel Achilles Heel lets players to utilize your Light Attack chain to apply a slow . Then, the The Opportunist lets you do more damage to slow enemies.

The Defender tree is packed with powerful defense buffs that are not available elsewhere. Sturdy Shield Sturdy Shield and Elemental Resistance Elemental Resistance help you take less harm from all sources. Sturdy Grip Sturdy Grip is fantastic to help your blocks become more effective. Defensive Training Defensive Training allows you to improve your Fortify block. Its ultimate mastery, Defensive Formation Defensive Formation, creates it so that every time you block, a 2 meter circle will form around you. Allies inside that circle will take 30 percent less damage from hits each second. It is the ultimate. Ultimate is a potent group damage reduction tool for melee allies.

Every Weapon Ability found in New World has a corresponding Perk, which can be found on both weapons and armor. The majority of perks increase in power in accordance with your Gear Score for the object they are on. You are only able to benefit from one instance of a Weapon Capacity Perk any one time. They can be difficult to come across on equipment and are generally an added bonus.

Contagious Reverse Stab Contagious reverse Stab Reverse Stab is a way to transfer an active debuff to self to the target. This Perk is great to tank, as taking an intense burn or poison off you and onto your opponent is a great feeling. There aren't too many sources of debuff removal in the game so having an extra debuff removal option will make a huge difference. We suggest looking for this perk in gear.

Enhancing Whirling Blade Empowering Whirling Blade -- Base damage is increased by 20% while making an Whirling Blade attack if three or more enemies are within the area that the strike. This Perk is nice, but is dependent on the situation. In general, when you're confronted by enemies, they're rather weak, and so an increase in damage will help in killing things slightly faster that were going to die in the first place. If you're using Whirling Blade Whirling Blade then it is a great Perk to purchase.

Enhancing Leaping Strike Empowering Leaping Strike -- Inflict 17% more damage to those who are slowed down through LeapingStrike's Cowardly Punishment upgrade. This perk is laughably situational in that it's only going to increase your damage against foes who are hit at the back with the Leaping Strike Leaping Strike. While this is a good thing for PvP in PvE , this is not that great even in the slightest.

Repulsing Shield Bash Repulsing Shield Bash --- Shield Bash knocks back targets by an additional 93%. This Perk can be quite useful as it lets you reposition enemies; however, when playing with melee DPS it could result in them having to move themselves around as well. It is generally recommended to avoid this Perk.

Shield Rush Fortifying Shield Rush Fortifying Shield Rush after hitting an object using Shield Rush, gain Fortify by increasing the damage absorbency of your own by 19% over four seconds. Achieving Fortify is always beneficial because it reduces the damages you incur. If you are using Shield Rush Shield Rush then you should consider obtaining this Perk.

Accelerated Defiant Accelerated Defiant Strance Movement Speed Increased by 28% for 5 minutes after activating Defiant Strance. This Perk is okay, but the speed boost is only noticeable only in certain situations. In PvP this Perk is quite nice as it can help you to keep your enemies out of the way or even catch them up.

Being able to level as leveling as a Sword and Shield character can be a bit difficult. There isn't the same damage output like others; however, you do have strong blocks and damage reduction capabilities that other weapons do not have. If you're planning at tanking your next expedition the only thing you need are the three mastery points such as Sturdy Grip Sturdy Grip, Shield Bash Shield Bash, and Defiant Stance Defiant Stance for you to handle tanking the first expedition. When you've got these three and an Carnelian Carnelian gem in your weapon you will be able to taunt your opponent and are not required to worry about leveling up Sword in the way you would like to.

Then, we'll take Final Count Down Final Count Down, Restoration Restoration, and Achilles Heel Achilles Heel. Then, we'll get our third Ability, Reverse Stab Reverse Stab that is sure work great with the overall kit. After that, we will purchase the Unstoppable Stab Unstoppable Stab as well as Opportunist Opportunist and then Tactician Tactician. Tactician helps to reset the other two abilities every time we hit with Reverse Stab because it decreases the cooldowns for every foe you strike. In other words, if you strike two foes at once, it's an 50% reduction in cooldown.

From here, we fill out the Defender Tree with Defensive Training Defensive Training Recuperation Recuperation using The Shield One with the Shield, Sturdy Shield Sturdy Shield, Elemental Resistance Elemental Resistance and then finally, Defensive Formation Defensive Formation, our Ultimate. Finally, we complete the sequence using Counter Attack Counter Attack, Final Blow Final Blow, and Freeing Justice Freeing Justice. If you can't decide to use the third attack in Your Light Attack combo you can pick something else instead of Final Blow.

War Hammer -- Where the Sword has little crowd control however, The War Hammer has it in excessive. The Armor Breaker This Armor Breaker is a particularly nice ability that lets you quickly attack which has a strong Rend. You can then combine this in conjunction with the Sundering Shockwave Sundering Shockwave perk and easily reach the cap of 30% which will make your attacks be extremely effective. The weapon is powerful against enemies of the Ancient type that cover up the weaknesses inherent in swords against. A drawback would be that you don't have any move ability, so going through rivers can be a bit painful.

Great Axe -Scaling mostly with Strength, it is a great pairing with the Sword. The Great Axe does a great job of gap closing and getting close to foes. There is something really satisfying about taking people down in PvP with Blood Lust Blood Lust. The Great Axe also comes with a taunt that heals players in Reap Reap If you feel you require more taunts or healing. One downside is that both of these weapons inflict Slash damage, which means they are both weak when fighting Ancient-type foes.

Spear -The Spear is an excellent weapon that can be combined with the Sword because you can use it to create massive Rend with Perforate Perforate which can assist your group in completely melting opponents. You can also get some crowd control using Sweep Sweep. However, there is one drawback: you won't have any movement capabilities between these two weapons.

Ice Gauntlet -- This is an extremely odd combo initially, as tank and caster typically don't go well together but here they do. Ice Gauntlet has the Mastery Blocking Stamina Blocking Stamina, which lets you convert mana into Stamina when blocking, at a ratio of 3 mana to 15 Stamina. With the crowd control feature that Ice Gauntlet provides and the ability to enter Entombed Entombed to effectively give yourself an additional health bar this Ice Gauntlet looks to be an intriguing tanking option. One of the main drawbacks is the fact that it isn't able to easily scale both weapons. Therefore, you will likely prefer to focus more on Sword and leave the Ice Gauntlet for utility.
