Despite these challenges, she continued to work hard and improve. In 2011, at 14, she debuted at the American Classic, where she won the vault title. The following year, she competed at the Visa Championships and won her first national title in the vault. She also won the floor exercise silver and bronze medals in the all-around.

In 2013, she began to make her mark on the international stage. She competed at the American Cup and won the all-around title, becoming the first American woman since 2008. Later that year, she competed at the World Championships in Antwerp, Belgium, where she won the all-around title, gold medals in the floor exercise and the vault, and a bronze medal in the balance beam.
