Assuming you're reading this article, you probably already know that it’s challenging to determine if someone is currently using Line since there isn't any visible green or blue dot or any other indicator that signals a user's online status. In fact, Line doesn't provide any visible green or blue dot or any other indicators that signal a user's status. It’s safe to assume that this is a privacy feature that protects both you and other Line users who might not want to communicate with overly talkative admirers.

The Importance of the Online Status of a Line

To verify if someone is online, the quickest way is to send them a message and check if it has been read.

Alternatively, visiting the person's timeline and checking their latest posts can also indicate if they are online. To access the user's timeline, tap on their profile, and select 'Posts' from the bottom left. To preview the latest updates (if available), switch between the Posts and Photos/Videos tabs. While effective, it's important to note that these methods have some drawbacks.

Firstly, Line is not technically a social network, so your friends are not obligated to post frequently. It's possible that someone might choose to ignore your message or not receive cellular service. Furthermore, there are ways to bypass the read recipient feature.

Control line chats and calls with AnyControl. AnyControl helps you to monitor LINE sent and received messages and track voice and video calls remotely and secretly. Register for AnyControl and access the texts, calls, photos and videos they’ve sent and received through LINE and find out if they’re sharing inappropriate content through this messenger

Status Messages

Some users use the Line's Status Message function. This feature enables users to update a message that is located under the 'Posts' tab on their profile.

If you are lucky, the person you are interested in may leave a Status Message announcing their unavailability temporarily. To find a Status Message, follow these steps:

Step one

Open the Line app. Navigate to the profile of the person you're interested in by tapping their name in the list that appears.

Step Two

Tap on 'Messages' in the bottom left corner, just as you did before. You can also tap on their profile and see the message just below their name.

As you can see in the screenshot above, the user has set their status message to say "Not Online". While it's unlikely that your friends and contacts will be this proactive, it's worth checking their profile for any updates.

How to trick the Read Recipient in Line feature?

Is there a switch to turn off reading recipients in line? No, there isn't. But that doesn't mean it's impossible, you just have to think outside the box.

What you can do from within the app is turn off message notifications. Tap the gears icon, select Notifications, and choose one of the options. You can turn them off completely, or disable message and thumbnail previews.

Ignoring group chat or individual chat tags is also easy. Just tap the button next to Mentions to turn them off. Turning off all notifications may be useful, but the read recipient will still be there when you open the message.
