The current lineup of NFL games include the most popular Madden franchise, as well as the very popular sports Madden nfl 24 coins franchise. Since EA has no "manager games" as such, there is no doubt across the board that EA will soon announce a brand new lineup of sports management products, but it has refused to say when.

A person familiar with the talks said that it was during an off-site meeting held in the spring of 2023 attended by the top NFL official that league officials decided it was going to grant the exclusive license of the league. MMOexp was informed that the league offered the license for auction and it was reported that EA was one of at least five software companies competing for the license. A EA spokesperson today said, "Obviously, exclusives are more expensive. It is certain that we are paying for a premium."

In an announcement, Larry Probst, chairman and CEO of Electronic Arts said, "We are delighted about the chance to expand our partnership and partnership with NFL as well as PLAYERS INC. The five-year contract will help NFL players through the transition to console technology with innovative ideas and new gaming experiences."

The deal is clearly negative for the competitors of EA especially the ESPN Videogames, Sega, and Take-Two. They snatched an impressive chunk of the Madden Football market with their Madden NFL series, and its low-cost price of $19.99.

It is possible that the deal will affect consumers in a negative way too. With less options, the theories of competition will no longer are applicable. Industry insiders believe that the exclusive agreement was accepted by the NFL following its discovery that Take-Two reduce the cost of its 2K5 model in the spring of this year. The licensor does not want to witness a price war being waged with the brand's value at risk. However exclusive licenses in the world of sports are common than nonexclusive licenses. For instance, the NFL's license for apparel is an exclusive Reebok exclusive and so is its beverage license together with Gatorade.

Today, Take-Two issued the following statement: "While sports games in general are a crucial element of Take-Two's diversification strategy however, our licensed NFL game we played through Sega this year has not an important contributor to our financial performance to date and was not expected to be a significant contributor during the next year. We are committed to continuing diversification of our portfolio of products and include sports."

"We believe that the decision taken by players and leagues like the National Football League and PLAYERS INC to issue an exclusive license to videogames is a huge detriment to players and the consumers who pay for the NFL in the form of limiting their options, limiting the creativity of players and likely result in higher prices for games."

"I truly respect them, but the player really suffers," one analyst told MMOexp. "EA is evil, but extremely intelligent."

In the event of a dispute impacting the quality of the future football products EA's vice-president of communications Jeff Brown told MMOexp, "The responsibility lies with EA to make the best game each year...that's the obstacle you'll need to conquer each year."
