A normal computer is not programmed to read barcodes. A special barcode scanner is required to scan the full code and then convert the formula of the code to make it a readable and a traceable bit of data. Basically, a barcode scanner captures the data available from the barcode and transmits it into a computer; the computer then translates the information and stores it in a database. Many scanners are compatible with most operating systems and computers. You have to install specific software, but it is actually easy to use.
