Everest Three Passes Trek
The Three Passes Trek, which crosses three 5,000m+ passes and takes three weeks to complete, is the greatest way to properly explore the Everest Region. The Renjo La, Cho La, and Kongma La crossings provide even more stunning vistas of the Himalayan giants than the Everest Base Camp Trek. The Three Passes trek can be paired with other Everest Base Camp Trek versions.
Manaslu Circuit Trek
Since the building of new lodges in 2010, the Manaslu Circuit Trek has become more accessible. The walk has all of the outstanding features of a classic Himalayan climb—deep green valleys at lower elevations, magnificent views of 8,000m peaks, and a 5,000m+ pass crossing—while being relatively untouched by tourists.
Despite its growing popularity and recent road building, Nepal's Manaslu Circuit remains remote and attracts fewer trekkers than the country's more well-known classic treks. The trailhead is an 8-hour journey from Kathmandu.
The Langtang hike is really heartfelt. Following the 2015 earthquake, the routes and guesthouses were closed to tourists for a few years, but they have since been renovated, and trekkers are returning.
The trek leads you through lovely woodlands to the high alpine meadows and yak pastures surrounding Kyangjin Gompa (a Buddhist monastery), with an optional day hike up to Kyangjin Ri (peak). From Kathmandu, the trailhead is a 7-hour drive.
Annapurna Base Camp Trek
The Annapurna Base Camp Trek takes you to the Annapurna South Base Camp, deep within the Annapurna Massif. The environment is different from most other well-known walks in that the panoramas are narrower and more vertical: you'll be looking almost straight up at the mountains towering above you.
Take a 25-minute flight from Kathmandu to Pokhara, then a 2-hour drive to the trailhead; alternatively take an 8-hour drive from Kathmandu.
Upper Mustang Trek
As opposed to virtually all other treks in Nepal, the Upper Mustang Trek's dry valley has a unique beauty. With its many shades of brown and crumbling sandstone cliffs, this site sits under the arid rain shadow of the Himalayas. Mustang was formerly its own nation, and its Tibetan-influenced customs make for an interesting cultural excursion.
You'll need to take two connecting flights to get to the trailhead: one from Kathmandu to Pokhara (25 minutes) and another from Pokhara to Jomsom (45 minutes) (20 minutes).
